Lay Responder First Aid CPR/AED Instructor
Prepares instructor candidates to teach First Aid and CPR skills. Instructor candidates learn basic Red Cross teaching and presentation techniques as well as Red Cross history.
Prerequisites:
- Must be at least 17 years of age.
- Participants must demonstrate competency in all first aid and CPR skills and hold current certification in Standard First Aid with CPR/AED Adult and Child plus Infant CPR.
CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer Instructor
Prepares instructor candidates to teach CPR-PR/AED to the community. Instructor candidates learn basic Red Cross teaching and presentation techniques as well as Red Cross history.
Prerequisites:
- Must be at least 17 years of age.
- Participants must demonstrate competency in CPR-PR/AED skills and hold current certification in CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer.
- Should already be a Lay Responder First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor.
Lifeguard Training
This course teaches the skills and knowledge needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies as a professional lifeguard. Course content and activities include: decision making skills, interacting with the public, recognizing & responding to all types of emergencies, equipment based rescue skills, spinal injury management and other current topics. Successful participants will receive certificates in: Lifeguard Training, First Aid, and CPR for the Professional Rescuer.
Prerequisites:
- Must be 15 years old. BRING PROOF OF AGE TO FIRST CLASS.
- Swim 300 yards continuously (consisting of front crawl and breaststroke).
- Timed skill: swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive to a minimum depth of 7-13 feet, retrieve a 10 pound object, return to the surface and swim back to the starting point, keeping the face above water and holding the 10 pound object with both hands.
Lifeguard Management
There are no prerequisites for this course.
Lifeguard Challenge
This course is for current or expired lifeguards needing to renew their certification in American Red Cross Lifeguard Training/First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer. This is a shortened version of the Lifeguard Training course. Successful participants will receive a Lifeguarding and First Aid certification valid for three years and CPR for the Professional Rescuer valid for one year.
Prerequisites:
- Must be 15 years old. BRING PROOF OF AGE TO FIRST CLASS.
- Swim 300 yards continuously (consisting of front crawl and breaststroke)

Water Safety Instructor
The WSI course prepares you to instruct progressive swim lessons from Infant/Preschool through Advanced Swimming Skills, Safety Training for Swim Coaches, Community Water Safety and Basic Water Rescue. You will also learn to facilitate the Longfellows Whales Tales program.
Prerequisites:
- Must be 16 years of age. BRING PROOF OF AGE TO FIRST CLASS.
- Have at least Level V (intermediate) swimming ability.
